Marvin Mendez joined Stern Perkoski Mendez as a partner in 2020 and practices divorce and family law.

Marvin’s understanding of complex financial and emotional matters, as well as his meticulous problem-solving techniques, make him an asset to our firm—and to every client he works with. Get to know more about Marvin in the interview below.

Q: Which areas of divorce and family law do you specialize in?

Marvin: Divorce and family law covers so many areas, but I primarily work with clients who have high conflict issues or complex financial situations. In every case, my goal is to create more light than heat and a safe space for my clients. After all, we are working with good people dealing with difficult and emotional situations—and I’m committed to supporting each one of my clients through these challenges.

Q: What inspired you to become a divorce and family law attorney?

Marvin: Over the course of my career, I’ve had many influential mentors who inspired me to become a divorce and family law attorney. Floyd Nadler, James Nadler, Enrico Mirabelli and James Pritikin have all had a profound impact on my career trajectory. One of them wisely said: “We are family law attorneys. If we can save the marriage, we do; if not, we save their marital estate.” I always keep this in mind when working with clients.

Q: Are there any cases or experiences that have stood out to you?

Marvin: I have been lucky to win many cases for my clients, but the cases that stand out are the ones I’ve lost. Losses are inevitable from time to time—and I find that those cases teach me the most and provide the greatest motivation to try new angles in my practice.

Q: What is something you want your clients to know?

Marvin: I want my clients to know that I do not believe in divorce or the dissolution of marriage—I believe in helping them navigate the process as seamlessly as possible. Inspired by years of experience with clients who have children, I’ve dedicated myself to advocating for maximum parenting time where feasible. As a parent myself, I always work with my clients to protect and prioritize their children’s best interests.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the firm?

Marvin: I love our youthfulness and the ease with which we all collaborate. Attorneys within a firm commonly work together in teams or pods. At Stern Perkoski Mendez, we believe in reaching out to one another to find the best fit for the needs of our clients. I work with every member of our team, and we often rotate to leverage each attorney’s unique skillsets and personality traits for a particular project, collaboration or client need.

Q: What do you do when you’re not in the office?

Marvin: Outside of work, I’m always spending time with my family. Family is first and foremost to me. Everything I am and everything I do is for them. When I am not at the office we are often traveling, dining, exploring and finding the best experience possible. Some of these experiences are wilder than the memories—like when we decided to visit California for three weeks and stayed for five months!
