Leo Sokolov joined Stern Perkoski Mendez as a partner in December 2023. He’s practiced law since 2015 and provides a full scope of divorce and family law services.

Leo is fluent in Russian and has an extensive background in pre- and post-decree matters, as well as cases with tax-related issues. He values honesty, respect and empathy, and his clients can count on him to provide a calm and steady hand, no matter the circumstances.

Question: In which areas of divorce and family law do you specialize?

Leo: I support people through all aspects of divorce. For couples with children under 18, I focus on the entire family. I always aim to craft an allocation judgment and parenting time schedule that is in the best interest of the children and aligns with my clients’ goals.

Financials are also a big aspect of divorce proceedings. I enjoy getting to the bottom of complicated financial issues, whether it be around spousal support, child support or the division of assets. I enjoy finding creative solutions to complex issues.

Question: What inspired you to become a divorce and family law attorney?

Leo: When I started working in family law, I felt really connected to the multi-faceted issues involved in divorce proceedings. No two cases are alike, and I’ve become fond of always learning something new. Every client has their own story, goals and ambitions.

Question: Do any of your work experiences stand out from the rest?

Leo: Being in family law is extremely rewarding. One of the most gratifying aspects is taking the divorce process—which is something that, for many, is extremely stressful and complicated—and making it more manageable for my clients. This allows them to take control of a situation that they may feel was previously out of their control.

Whether I’m helping someone with their finances or guiding them through negotiating an allocation judgment, it’s really important for me that my clients have a full understanding of all the facts and the process. This enables them to make the best decisions for themselves and their family.

Question: What is something you want your clients to know?

Leo: My number one priority is being honest with my clients. My job as an attorney is to advocate for my client, which includes being fully transparent at all times. I will always look out for my client’s best interests and ensure they understand all aspects of their case—both positive and negative.

I work with my clients to develop strong strategies based on their particular circumstances and goals. Sometimes it’s necessary to be litigious, and sometimes a more collaborative approach is warranted. Either way, my commitment is to work honestly and achieve the best results.

What do you look forward to most with the Stern Perkoski Mendez team?

Leo: I look forward to working with attorneys who are knowledgeable and passionate about family law. And I appreciate that every person on our team is eager to help each other out when necessary.

Question: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Leo: My wife and I just welcomed our first child, so I’m enjoying spending time with my family and all the things that come with being a father. We also have a 1-year-old Bernedoodle named Kobe. I enjoy traveling, and I’m a huge sports fan!
